UNC Jazz Festival 2008

I am incredibly honored and proud to announce that both the Jordan Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo finished first in their respective divisions at the 31st annual UNC Jazz Festival! This is the second straight year that we have won both divisions, in fact we've won for 4 out of the past 5 years in Big Band and 5 straight years for the combo. To say this is an incredible accomplishment is an understatement. This years competition was tremendous with 25 different groups performing from all over NC. We were adjudicated by professional musicians from New Orleans, New York, Denver, and Wisconsin to name a few. We were fortunate enough to have our clinicians sit in and play with us, and offer some incredible feed back and critique. To top the evening off, we opened up for the UNC Repertory Jazz Band in Memorial Hall! There must have been 1000 people in the audience who gave the Jazz students a wonderful welcome and response.

Please help me in congratulating the students in the Jazz program as this is an incredible achievement and a phenomenal string of championships! It was a wonderful day for Jordan, the band family and our community, one that we all will all remember for a long time. Thanks!
