GALA recaP

A heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported the band and made the Gala an extremely successful event.  (A separate message will be sent acknowledging those who volunteered their time to this event.) The music was fabulous, all indications are that everyone enjoyed themselves, and we raised some much needed funds from the ticket sales, auction and raffle!  All numbers are not in yet, but estimates indicate that approximately 550 gala tickets were sold and approximately $7000.00 was cleared!  What a great job! Simply awesome!

The annual End of the Year Awards Banquet and Booster meeting will be held on Friday June 5th, 6:00 p.m. in the JHS Cafeteria.

Just as in previous years, the banquet will be a potluck dinner for which various sections of the band are responsible for bringing the main courses, deserts, and salads. Please be mindful that if you bring a dish that must kept at a cool temperature, to have it on ice.

We anticipate 300-400 people in attendance. With this in mind, it is extremely important that everyone bring enough food to feed their family members and several others. Please drop off all food items in the cafeteria between 5:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Descriptions of what each course includes:

  • Main Course: This can be chicken, pizza, casserole, pasta, etc. Keep in mind that this should be enough food to feed 8-12 guests.

  • Fruit/Salads: This includes pasta salads, fruit bowls, etc. This should be enough to feed 15-20 guests.

  • Desserts: This includes brownies, pies, cakes, etc. This should be enough food to feed 15-20 guests.

  • Drinks: This includes soft drinks, water, etc. This should be enough for 15 to 20 guests.

List of what each section is responsible for bringing:

  • Main Course:  Oboes, Piccolos, Flutes, All Clarinets, All Saxophones, Percussion

  • Fruit/Salads: Trumpets

  • Desserts: French Horns, Baritones, Guitar

  • Drinks: Bassoons, Trombones, Tubas

  • Band packet for the 09-10 school year will be distributed on Friday at the banquet. Be sure to make arrangements for pickup if you will not present. Contact Laura Melton laura.melton@duke.edu or Jane Walters majjic@earthlink.net.

  • If you did not join the band boosters this year, please consider doing so for 09-10. Additional information will be included in the band packet.
